News from Lynx Edicions

At the British Birdwatching Fair last month, Lynx Edicions, publishers of the Handbook of the Birds of the World series, announced that they have three more projects forthcoming in the series. As far as I can tell they are:

1) Handbook of the Birds of the World: Special Volume: New Species and Global Index. It has been described as: With the release of the 16th volume of the "Handbook of the Birds of the World", this project has now been brought to completion. In the 20 years that have past since this project started some new species have been discovered, and this special volume describes 52 such species.

This volume will furthermore include a comprehensive introduction by Jon Fjeldsa on the changes in bird macrosystematics that have occurred in the last two decades, and provide a global index to the entire series with quick keys to rapidly finding what you are looking for in the 16 volumes.

2) Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World - Volume 1: Non-passerines; Volume 2: Passerines. Description: Completing "The Handbook of the Birds of the World" has taken 20 years to complete. In that time new species have been discovered, but there have also been important changes in bird taxonomy. The aim of this checklist, which is published in cooperation with Birdlife International, is to address all of these important changes.

This is the first ever fully illustrated checklist, with maps and detailed distributions of all of the species and subspecies levels, and is completely updated at the macrosystematic, species, and subspecies levels. The first volume covers the non-passerines. Volume 2 will cover the passerines.

3) On-line version of the handbook. See this video for details:
